About IIT Ropar

IIT ROPAR (Punjab) was established by MHRD, Govt. of India in year 2008. It is among the eight new IITs to become operational. The institute was operational from its mentor institute campus at IIT Delhi from 23 July, 2008. In its first academic year 2008-2009, four year B.Tech. programmes were offered namely in Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Second year onwards students has been shifted to its temporary classes ( a former women’s polytechnic) which is provided by the Government of Punjab. It has already approved land for permanent campus of about 525 acres in Rupnagar.

Location of the Institute:

IIT Ropar is located at Rupnagar (formerly known as Ropar) town of district Rupnagar, Rupnagar is well connected by road on National highway NH-21.

The nearest airport is Chandigarh, at a distance of about 60 Km. The current temporary location is a brief 1.5 Km walk from Rupnagar railway station and permanent campus is about 4.5 Km from it.

Campus of IIT Ropar:

The temporary campus for IIT Ropar is set up with all the facilities as required. Classrooms fitted with multimedia, faculty rooms, administrative wing are all in place.

There are 3 hostels, two for boys and one for girls equipped with modern messing units in place. Faculty recruitment, creation of laboratories and other support facilities are in full swing.
