IIT Patna was formally registered as a society on July 25, 2008 and its academic programmes commenced from August 6, 2008. IIT Patna has been placed under the mentorship of IIT Guwahati during its formative period. Currently IIT Patna offers four year B.Tech. Programmes in Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Location of the Institute:

IIT Patna currently functions from the Navin Government Polytechnic campus. The Bihar government has identified a site for the permanent campus close to the state capital. It will be on the outskirts of Patna in a 600 acre campus. The campus will have 45,000 square feet of space. It is expected that all operations will shift to the main campus by July 2010.

Campus of IIT Patna:

IIT Patna has two hostel buildings which has already been renovated and modernized. In order to facilitate e-learning every student will be issued a state of the art laptop by institute. All major laboratories are being setup in the institute building. The labs required for the first year courses are ready.

The institute library has a collection of huge number of text and reference books related to courses of study.

A student activity centre (SAC) with modern amenities and a gymnasium will be ready soon. The SAC will be the center of all student co-curricular and extra curricular activities.
