Awareness
Even though the ministry of HRD, the
officiating ministry of IITs takes every step to create awareness
about IIT-JEE through newspaper advertisements and field posters
(sent to schools), the technicalities of IIT-JEE are largely unknown
to a majority of rural students of India. The general knowledge
about IIT-JEE among school teachers and general education trainers
lack the intricacies of the examination.
IIT-JEE is a national level examination
conducted for admission to IITs at Madras, Kanpur, Kharagpur,
Bombay, Delhi, Roorkee, Guwahati, Institute of Technology (IT-BHU)
and I.S.M. Dhanbad. Since year 2000, IITs have been following a two

subjected to a descriptive test of 6 hours duration (2 hours for
each). The students who are declared qualified are given a rank
called All India Rank. The qualified students are then advised to
appear for a personal counseling session to determine the
availability of seats and branches in different disciplines of
various IITs. IT-BHU and ISM Dhanbad. A final offer of admission in
made to the students after the counseling session is over.
