About IIT Hyderabad
IT Hyderabad is the eighth IIT in the country which started functioning from August
2008. It aims learning through practice and research. The institute is on the road
to creating the infrastructure, ambience and culture necessary for the pursuit of
creative ideas. The government of Japan will participate in the formation of Indian
Institute of Technology. Hyderabad through academic, technical and financial collaboration.
IIT Madras is the mentor institute. IIT Hyderabad follows a similar curriculum as
that of IIT Madras. As of now, some of the faculty of IIT Madras will be teaching
courses at IIT Hyderabad.
Currently, the institute in its temporary premises in the quiet residential campus
of Ordnance Factory, Medak (OFMK) at Yeddumailaram (Medak District, A.P), about
45km from the heart of Hyderabad city. The requisite infrastructure, namely hostels,
classrooms, offices, recreation, sports and medical facilities are all located within
the OFMK Estate.
The permanent campus will be located on the National Highway 9 at Kandi village
(near Sangareddy town, in Medak district, A.P). The 218 hectare land is expected
to become operational with its first set of buildings and structures by 2010, the
third academic year onwards students are expected to move to join the permanent
